Mercruiser Tilt/Trim Inop at Remote

Hi All, I have a mercruiser Alpha 1 ( I believe alpha 1, boat new to me). Shop put a new remote on about 6 trips ago, now both the trailer tilt/trim and the moving tilt/trim switches are inop. Trim Motor works fine at the solenoid so I wasn't stuck. Any tips? Could I have just got a couple of lemon switches? Does the motor know when it is low on fluid and "wont let it work?"

Do you have power to the switch, check for fuses?

Are all the connections plugged in tight?

Fair questions, sorry for vagueness...
1989 Mach 1 Eclipse (V6 Mercrusier GM)
connections appear tight, I did not look for a fuse between, I can do that.

Back on the trim pump there should be a small glass fuse for the control power.

Kicking myself now..First thing I grabbed was that black bullet fuseholder looking thing on the pump, couldnt get it a part so I moved on. Well, after seeing Don's post I dashed home for lunch (25 min each way for my hour lunch total hehe) and low and behold, with a little love I got it apart to find a blown 20A fuse!!!! Thanks so much, I thank you, my kids thank you.

Any idea if 20A is proper for back there?

Boat is new to me, I/O is new to me, what are the must have #'s for you guys to help when I am posting? (I'm an aircraft parts guy, I have to have a serial # to proceed with any info is why I ask)

Do serial #'s help on the Alpha one, or is an alpha one an alpha one.

The 20A fuse is what is called for. Sometimes those glass fuses blow for no known reason. Put a new one in and see how it works. Since you had work done on the control, there could be a chafed wire that shorted out causeing the fuse to blow. If it was, it will blow again.
The SN of your drive and another for your engine are needed when ordering OEM parts from Merc dealers and online at Mercs parts express site. Also, in some instances the SN will help determine a year of the engine. It never hurts to post them.

At the Very Least,.... The Vintage, or Supposed Vintage of what you're working on is Essential,....

With an 89,..... The odds are Good that you actually have an Alpha 1 Drive.....
Many Pre-84 outdrives are Called Alphas, but Aren't..... Interchangable, but Different.......
I think it's post-91 are the Alpha 1, Gen.IIs.......
They Look like the Alpha 1s, but will Not interchange with the older drives.....

So,......... With a Serial #,..... Don,+ a few others can probably tell you Your last name,..
Muchless the Part#s you need.......

I was Just looking at those pages that I saved to My Documents,.............:D

It must be CRS, or early Alzheimer's....... :rolleyes:
