mercruiser transom seal ?

I have a 1990 mercruiser alpha one gen one i'm replacing the transom assembly on. My question is does the transom seal need any sealer, against the hull or between the seal and transom assembly? or just clean and dry? Thanks

Usually they are put on dry. I like to run a very thin smear of marine sealant on the transom... To be sure, to be sure.....
