I have an M-Craft marauder with a ford 5.8L v8. i believe it is a late eighties model. The hydraulic pump is located just to the left of the motor (looking from bow to stern)Could someone please tell me how you go about topping up the hydraulic oil. the pump has to run a short while (+- 8 sec) before the cylinders start lifting the LU.

Re: Mercruiser trim tilt

Hard to say really, Mercruiser stopped using Ford engines in 77. But since it's hard to see where it fills at, sounds like you may have the Prestolite trim pump.
Just loosen or remove the vent and fill screw and fill to the level of the fill screw with the drive all the way down.

Re: Mercruiser trim tilt

thanks, that looks more or less like the pump in my boat.
BTW the motor just has mercruiser 188HP on the tappet cover and no other visable markings. i was told by a friend that the motor is a ford. i will post a pic asap so that someone can help identify the boat properly as it is an import from the states.
