Mercruiser trim/trailer switch

On my 888 drive, the wiring harness for the trim limit switch is junk. As with most this age I think. While underway, I have to hit both the trailer switch and the trim switch to trim the drive. I've been doing this for 6 years now and understand that I can over-trim this way. I recently picked up a steering wheel mount trim switch that I want to put in. Of course, I don't want to have to reach over and hit the trailer button on the dash.

Can I just bypass the trailer switch and make it a solid connection with no ill effects, ie battery drain, etc so I can just trim up/down with one switch?

Re: Mercruiser trim/trailer switch

Sure you can.
If you have solenoides for up and down, just pick up power for your solenoids off the ignition switch (Purple wire) that way it will only work with the switch in the run position. No power with the key off.
