I have a 1992 5.7 mercruiser with gen2 outdrive and am going to try and replace the U-joint bellows. I think i read it here some place that its not too hard(??). any help would be appreciated. my question is do i really need the sleeve installation tool. I really dont live near any marinas (60 mi) so i try and do most things myself. I have changed the shift bellows before and have the mercruser service manual, only prob is am getting senior moments so i have to watch myself. next BD will be big 70. tks for the help.

you can make a piece of wood same size as the ring and use that or I used a pvc coupler.

The main thing you'll need is the Manual (downloadable, see the 'Sticky' at the top of this section) and the ring installation tool. Without that, forget it. I find the gen I's easier. I know that Don finds these easier... There you go. It's not hard, just time consuming and a pain in the backside.

Good luck and keep posting.

(congrats on make the '70')

Chris........... (not even '50' yet, gee, that makes me feel young :D:D:D)
