MerCrusider Fuel Rail - is there an alternative?

Hi Everyone, Hoping someone is able to help me. We recently purchased a Four Winns 2008 SL262 it is immaculate :) one small problem we have the MerCruiser model 496 MAG (H.O.) (Serial #1A350233) 425 HP and the Fuel Rail (Part # 881691002) has corroded and the boat is no longer operable. I live in Australia but have been searching online in the USA (as has the boat mechanic) for a replacement. It appears that that is the only part MerCruiser no longer makes or any superseded parts.

Are there any aftermarket or another brand such as a Volvo that we could swap it with?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome aboard.

the best source to answer your question is Raylar. They would know since they are the Gen VII / 8.1 liter specialists for marine power adders, and they may have take-offs of the fuel rails.

give them a call.

Also check the fit of the AC Delco number 12575055
I'm guessing but it "looks" like the same part

were these ever used in an automotive application? if so it may be the same part. Check a GM parts catalog.
That's what I don't like about older EFI systems, they start making things NLA and you have to search places that sell NLA parts and ebay, usually one will turn up...
with carbs the aftermarket keeps you going.

the 8.1 was in the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks from 2001 to 2008. AD posted the part number. however the parts are on national back-order meaning do not hold your breath.

However, the factory fuel rail has issues. one is they rust out in a marine environment. the biggest one is they restrict the amount of fuel that makes it to the injectors

Contact Raylar. they specialize in the 8.1 and sell fuel rail kits and a whole plethora of 8.1 liter only parts. and last time I looked, their fuel rail kit is cheaper than the factory stock parts listed at close to $500

Thank you I did and now just waiting to hear back from my mechanic. Raylar was very quick to respond.

I did look this up.

Just not sure if it is the same part? Hard to find comparisons. But it is made by GM in theory - I think.

The fuel rail would be the same between Merc and GM, etc… I recall a service bulletin in about 2006 where GM had an issue with the Fuel Rail Pulse Damper Retainer Clip may fracture...This same GM service bulletin came to all the marine engine manufacturers Merc, Volvo, PCM, etc. because there was a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration involvement so they had to play it safe as I recall it to be.
