Newbie question, sorry in advance.

Can I replace my '91 Mercruiser 3.0L engine with a '84 Mercruiser 3.0L engine? The layout of looks the same. I have an alpha one outdrive. Could I use the same outdrive?

Ayuh,... Generally speaking, Yes, it'll work...
Although there may be some specific issues with the swap...

Being a 91, you could have either an Alpha I or an Alpha I Gen II outdrive. Do you have a Merc Serial number for your outdrive?

It's actually a 1990 Alpha I outdrive, and NOT the GenII version.
So, to answer your question, yes the 84 drive will fit. Just make sure it has the 1.98 gear ratio or you will have problems.

yes. - you will need to keep the 1984 coupler/flywheel/starter on the 1984 engine. That is the only area of critical difference. Otherwise, swap all the peripherals over. You'll be fine using your 1990 outdrive with the 1984 engine.
