Hello again all.

I replaced the impeller on the lower end and now I think there is something else wrong.

When I plut the muffs on it, I do not get water coming out anywhere but around the muffs themselves and right about the lower end section in the back of it. Nothing out the prop at all.

Is there a right and wrong side to put the muffs on?

The rebuild kit I got was for the upper part of the pump, not the lower as well, but it had a lot of extra gaskets and o-rings. When I took off the old pump I laid out the gaskets in the order they came out and when i installed the new on i made sure to reverse the order. There were only three gaskets used.

I think there is supposed to be water coming out the prop just about as soon as I turn on the hose correct?

What should I be checking next on this? Or am I being paranoid since its my first time working on the lower end?

you won't really see any water circulating until you start your engine...the impeller needs to suck the water in, pump it through your cooling system, and THEN it will start to squirt out again...takes like 20-30 seconds on my alpha 1...

Ok thanks. I will wait until I get a buddy over to watch the lower end while I start it. Really hoping I didnt screw anything up, want to get her back in the water so I can start addressing the low idle and boggieness of it..

Also how much water should be coming out from around the muffs?

+1. The hose pressure isn't going to bend the fins on the raw water pump, so it just flips the muffs back, and blows out there. When you start her, there'll be water coming out the 'normal' places. When running, mine doesn't come out the muffs at all...

you may not very much at all out the prop. most of the water will be from the idle relief ports at the transom.
