Hi guys i have a 1988 mercruiser 140 sterndrive. I just bought the boat it was not running. Bad gas. Carburetor accelerator pump not hooked up. I fixed these problems changed the oil. gave her an new coil, spark plugs and wires. Now she starts right up but and starting to hear a knock in the back of the engine. I just ran a compression test and from front to back of the engine i have 171 151 149 140 Dose this sound like i need an overhaul? UPDATE.... i Just thought it might be valves out of adjustment so i loosened the intake and exhaust on the very back cylinder and my compression raised to 175 so i think the low compression is just due to valves out of adjustment. my question is still what would the knock be?
