Mercrusier starting problem

I have a 2002 Mercrusier 4.3 MPI. I had a problem with it bogging down above 3000 RPM's at the beginning of the season. I changed the fuel/water filter and it worked fine for about 5 trips to the lake. This past weekend it ran fine for most of the day. But twice during the day it would start and idle but when I gave it gas it bogged down and died. It would not restart right away but if i waited 3 minutes it would start up and run fine. Is it needing another filter again or could it be something else?

Thanks

Re: Mercrusier starting problem

did you store it for the winter with a full tank of gas?

you may have lots of water in the fuel, head to the Marina and they sell a product for this, it is supposed to lt the water burnable?? dont know how it works but it does.

Pour out the contents of the fuel water separator into a glass jar and let it sit an hour. If it separates a lot of water or junk you might want to polish the fuel. That is, filter & separate the fuel a number of times til it's very pure. It's done with an external filter/separator and external gas container to put the fuel into as it's cleaned. You repeatedly run the fuel through, might take a few filters to get it really right. But in the end the tank is clean and the fuel won't clog your filter.

I removed the filter and poured it into a clear container. There was little to no water that seperated after an hour. Any idea what other this problem could be? I did add 3 cans of sea foam to about 40 gallons but I would not think that would hurt anything.

Start from the beginning. Check the fuel pick up tube to see if there is a screen on the end that gets clogged when running in the water.
