Mercuiser Stalls when Increasing Throttle

I have a 1986 Chris Craft Cavalier with a Mercruiser 3.0 I/O. I took it out yesterday and when I go from low RPM to increasing the throttle the engine sounds like it is about to stall before the RPM's finally increase. In one instance it did stall. Any ideas what would be causing this and what the fix would be? Thanks in advance.

I have the same motor and had a similar problem, turned out to be a leaky intake. Spray something around the intake gasket will running and if your RMP changes, that's your problem.

I also have issues when I first start the boat while the engine is cold. I need to keep it rev'd for about a minute before it will idle without stalling. Could these two problems be related? If so, would it lend it self to replacing the accelerator pump? Thanks again!!

Sounds like a weak ignition to me, check your cap rotor and points for wear, water and or corrosion. If good, check the plugs and then move on to the fuel system.

I had the same issues and tuned out to be a vaccume leak. I agree with the above post. Could be a
lot of other things also, I personally would check for vac leaks first then go from there.
