Got instruction on winterize water drainage on a 1985 Mercruiser Chevy. 350 260 HP.
This included the manifold, engine block, water pump & power steering cooler.

This year I will be rock fishing in the Chesapeake Bay in VA & MD. Up until Jan. 1. The boat is on a trailer.

Question?- How can I quickly & easily drain this outfit each time I Use the boat? Is there a kit or some modification to this task? To disconnect all these hoses is a mess & damaging to the hoses. This engine has been rebuilt w/ new manifolds which do not have any threaded outputs for drainage. The water pump has a huge hose and no drainage ports. The power steering cooler is under the engine on the left side & hard to get to. Any suggestions?

Ayuh,...

The Best way is the way you've been doing it...

The "Kits" available increase the chances of a Frozen Block exponentially...

The Elbows on the bottom of the manifolds can be switched to "T"s,+ drains installed....
A Drain can be added to the P/Steering Cooler..

The problem you face is one a friend of mine has also. the solution is simple but not really cheap.

He has 2 giant motors in his setup, and what we came up with it a big tub filled with anti-freeze that the drive sits in and he immerses the drive in the tub, and sucks the anti-freeze thru the motor and back out the relief ports and back into the tub so it re-circulates. He runs it till the t-stat opens and then leaves it run another 4-5 minutes to make sure its all thru the block and all.

I want to be clear here the t-stat must open, or you run serious risk understand ???????????

One more thing, you do this, you do it with the full knowledge that it is not the recommended method of winterizing the motor, and at your own risk.

I don't want all kinds of people now posting, and ripping me a new one, cause i don't give a rats behind what they say.

Good luck !
