Mercuriser 4.3L Oil? Alpha one Gear lube?

Hello,
I am buying stuff for my first winterization of my boat. I am wondering what type of 4 Stroke Oil to use? 10W30? Also what is the best lower unit gear lube? Is there a diffrence between the Mecury Premimum and the high performance gear lube? The boat is a 19Ft Sylvan bowrider with a Mercruiser 4.3l V6 with a Alpha 1 outdrive. And finally is there a diffrence in fogging sprays?

Scott - check this old thread for oil advice. For gear lube, I have always used the Merc "green" stuff - I'm not sure how they designate it. I do not see any difference in fogging sprays - any brand should do fine.

99% sure the green stuff is HP.

I believe you are right stevieray. HP is what I also use on my gen2.

Scott, Automotive 10W-30 oil is not rated for your sterndrive. Merc. recommends either straight weight SAE 30 or SAE 40, depending on temperature, or the Quicksilver 25W-40 oil(all temps). If you plan to use the motor in the cold weather of either spring or fall/winter, I think the 25W-40 oil by Quicksilver is the way to go. As for the gearcase lube, I use any "LU lube for mechanical shift motors", that I can find (Pennzoil, Lubrimatic are common)

Also use some marine grease (saltwater resistant) for the zerc grease fittings and prop shaft.

It looks like I am going to go with 30W oil...

No plans to go out in the cold...

One other thing... I seen that Walmart has the quicksilver line of oils... Is this the same stuff found at marine stores?

Did you look at the old thread? There are 4 types up higher in the order of preference over the straight 30W - I would have the tendency to start at the top of the list instead of the bottom - but that's just me
