hi to all.
i just purchased my first outboard, its a 1989 sea ray 16 ft with a mercury 100 hp outboard.let me give you a little background on the boat/motor.for the last 6 years the boat/motor had been kept in a garage because the owner had passed.
the boat has never seen salt water and the engine only has 400 hrs on it.the previous owner had the boat service every year.the owners wife had the carburators cleaned/rebuild before i purchased it.the motor starts fine but if backfires,it pops and a little blue smoke comes out.i have cleaned the plugs, and used a new fuel from a different fuel tank.i attempted to adjust the fuel mixture on the 2 top carburators with negative results.the motor is a 2 plus 2.the bottom 2 carburators do not appear to have any adjustment on them.i have a repair manual but is very vague.i have had several other boats with an inboard/oboard motors that i have service with little or no problems.any help will be appreciated, thanks.
