My merc 115 / 90 jet at top rpm’s hesitates and drops about 200 RPM’s then within 2 seconds goes back to 5,100. For the sake of time I’ll leave out all the things I’ve attempted to check, fuel lines, air leaks, CDMs, voltage regulator, etc. I am being told by a certified mechanic that the next thing to checkout my rev limiter. For whatever reason I can’t find it on the engine I know there is one due to it being a factory jet. I’ve see it on wiring diagrams but none show where it is actually located on my engine. Does anyone have a picture of where the Rev Limiter is on a 115 merc Jet? Everybody so far that I’ve asked confuses it with the voltage regulator.

It's the same shape and size as the voltage rectifier/regulator module and is located on the same side of the engine. It's down low, just above the midsection centered on the engine L-R. The oil tank may be hiding it. Proof in the pudding is that it has a brown wire (among others) that is the brown wire to the triggers to kill them when too high.

Are you sure it’s no cavitation caused by a poor impeller to wear ring clearance ?

I’m pretty sure it not a cavitation issue. My problem is that the engine looses rpms. Also, I can intentionally over trim my jet and that cavitation revs the engine.

Ill look under my oil my oil tank when I get back on the river this weekend.

Still can’t find anything that resembles a rev limiter. Any body have a picture of it’s location on a merc 115 jet?

Are you sure it's not part of the switchbox? Are you sure your motor is a factory jet?

Get a brown wire from a CDI/trigger/HV module and follow it around the engine. If you have a rev limiter, sooner or later the brown wire will take you to it.
