2011 Mercury 4-stroke on a 2012 Tracker. Has run absolutely great since I purchased it used 2 years ago. The other night after leaving a waterfront restaurant it stalled after 5 minutes, couldn't get it restarted. Although this is fuel injected, they symptoms remind me of an old carburetored engine that had float problems with too much or too little gas.
It wouldn't start for anything.... got towed home. The next day I dug into the problem.
Not likely a gasoline problem, as I burned through the first 1/3 of the tank before the problem started.
Gas filters and spark plugs replaced when winterized last year.
I just added external fuel filter and primer bulb to see if gas flowing from tank.
Recap of Symptoms:
This just started, after many hours of great operation.
Motor runs good for 5 minutes, and then stalls out. Motor Won?t start. No alarm sounds.
(Symptoms reminded me of those I?ve seen on old carbureted engines when there was too much gas or too little gas)
Won?t restart for several hours, long after engine cools down, like 6 or 8 hours.
After several hours, restarts and runs fine for 5 min. After sitting over night, I was able to drive it five minutes toward a boat launch then stalled.
This is a very reproducible symptom.
Anyone have any idea?

- Removed fuel filters, blew air through them, no restrictions or dirt noted. They were replaced during winterization last fall, so not old.
- Measured pressure on fuel rail, just over 40 psi.
- Removed Fuel system module, inspected inside, checked filters on pump, looks good, very clean, no residue of any kind inside. No fuel in or coming from manifold reference tube on fuel system module.
- Removed thermostat housing, removed thermostat, and doesn?t appear to be sticking either open or closed.
