Hi all. Quick one hopefully can be answered easily.

a friend has bought an old glastron with a early 80’s blue band 115 straight 6 on her. He is selling on the boat and removing engine.
having seen and heard a few of these but never worked on it certainly lifted one...just wondering what weight these are and if they still have the ability to put an eye boot in the flywheel to lift ?
haven’t seen it yet and trying to advise that it isn’t an easy 2 man lift, if not at all, without mechanical help and either the eye bolt (if these have the same as any other big merc I’ve lifted) or well positioned strops at a balance pivot point.
I firstly guessed about 160/170kgs, knowing what my 150 V6 weighs and removing a few kgs. But a quick look online suggests anything from 120-150kgs.

Anyome know an exact figure in case it makes a difference ? It’s a 115 model.
just know it won’t be easy, even at its lightest by hand. Having once lifted a 90 smaller 3 cylinder with two people. This will be a fair bit heavier at least.

cheers.

It takes the eye bolt for lifting

Thanks 3boydad. Is it the standard size that the motors I am more familiar with would take ? Like the v6’s ? No left hand threads or anything silly ?

The lifting eye tool is same for all 2 stroke Mercs. Right hand 1 1/2" - 16 threads,

An IL6 is about 300 pounds. Maybe 20 pounds more with power trim. If you wanted to remove it from the boat, you could have 2 men hold it and the third unbolt it and lift the trailer tongue. It will balance on the skeg easily, with 2 people holding it. 2 men could then drag it away.
