Hey guys two quick questions here
(1976 merc 1150)

1) Is there a way to make the throttle/shift handle easier to move? Couldn't find any adjustments on the controls. It takes alot to muscle it into gear, but once it's in gear the throttle moves fine. (not an engine problem, have disconnected cables at engine and still have same problem)

2)Just how bad of a "clunk" are these motors supposed to make when shifting and is there anyway to reduce the noise? Don't have a tach yet, so couldn't give you my idle speed but it seems pretty low. Running a 19P SS (which is probably some of the problem, but I see other boats with SS props not jolting the boat so much)
I'm switching back to the stock 17P aluminum anyway, so I will see if that helps.

thanks!!!

Re: Mercury 1150 hard shifting question

pull the control box off of the boat, then take the control cables off of the box. now try to push and pull the actual cable inside the control cables themselves and see how much resistance you have, they should push/pull fairly easily, and while you are doing this, with the control cable disconnected from the conrtol box, move the control handle from full throttle forward to full throttle reverse and see how much resistance you have, it shouldnt be anything, or not much at all, if the cables/ a cable has a stiffness and doesnt wanna move then just replace it, if the box has resistance try to grease/oil it up.
