I purchased and older boat and it has a merc 1150 tall 6 plugs and 3 carbs. I am not sure of the year. I did some reading on the forms and took a plug out and squirted some of the fuel mixture in and did the same on all 3 carbs. She finally stated and i let her idle for 5 min and then dropped the choke down.

I let the motor run at idle for 1/2 hour because it's older and hadn't been run since last year. Went out to the lake and launched her and had to use fog in the carbs to get her stated. I ran her around the lake for approx 30 min and then the motor died. I was able to fog the carbs and got her going but couldn't go past 1/2 throttle or she would die out. Then finally the end came and she died and i had to use mu kicker to get us back in. I put all new plugs in her before i got her running the first time. I also checked and there isn't a kink in the fuel hose anywhere.

It sounds to me that she isn't getting fuel and the pump might be bad. Thoughts or opinions are welcomed.

Thanks,
Kassun

Does sound like the fuel pump needs a rebuild and the carbs may have setiment in them also old fuel filter may be the cause

Re: Mercury 1150 need help trouble shooting

Had the local repair shop go through and clean her up. Once started she runs great. It's the starting that is a huge pain in the a%%. I have to either use fog or some of the fuel mixture in the carbs to get her to fire over. I have heard that they have a tendency to be a tad stubborn. But even after running her for 20 min I still have to fog her to get her to start. Any advice?

Cold starting the inline sixes is a bit tricky. Pump up the fuel line primer good and hard. Lift the cold start lever all the way. Hold the choke button down and crank 'till she starts. Should take 10 sec or so. Let her warm up, dropping cold start lever as she warms up.

After initial warm up, she should start quickly w/o choke. Perhpas something is not yet right in carbs.
