I have an alarm (continuous beep) sound coming from my helm even when my motor has run for a while. I think this is a motor problem but am not sure.

A continuous beeeeeeeeep is the temp alarm warning you that significant motor damage may be about to occur.

How old is the water pump, has the motor been started dry, killing the impeller, is it 'P'ing strongly?

Does the alarm sound with the key ON but the motor NOT running?

Can you hold your hand on the motor for a few seconds?

The boat was just serviced (new spark plugs and oil changed). Pump was checked and was OK. Motor has not been started dry. Alarm does sound with key in ON position and motor NOT running. Techometer and speedometer does not work, have gotten the beep to stop once by hitting the techometer.

Key ON but the motor NOT started, a continuous alarm is generally a bad alarm module OR a bad temp sender.

TEST, with key ON, motor off, while the alarm is sounding, disconnect the tan wire from the temp sender on the motor, if this stops the alarm, replace the sender.

Repost your results.

Did Test: disconnect/reconnect tan/blue stripe wire on cylindrical temp sender, alarm stops. I've got another temp sender on order, will update if it doesn't solve issue. Thanks CharlieB

Re: Mercury 125 outboard 2001 Alarm

CharlieB, I hope you won't mind going further with this thread. I have the same motor and problem as qt73937 except that, with key ON and motor OFF, when I disconnect the tan w/ blue stripe wire from the temp sender the warning horn does not turn off. Sounds like temp sender is OK? You say that the next thing to check is the Alarm Module? Can you help me with how to locate and fix this, I assume it is under the helm? Any help is greatly appreciated. Gary

Gary,
Start a new thread and list the motor model and serial, it's poor form to hi-jack another thread even though it is a similar problem it is going to be a different solution.
