everyone is probably getting tired of my posts lol.. seems like nothing but problems with this motor.. well anyways i took the boat out today (first time on the river in about 4 years) and made it about 500ft (in a no wake zone) and it died out and wouldnt start back up.. i ended up paddling it back to the ramp and when i got to the ramp it started back up again.. basically its like when it heats up its dying out.. its not overheating, i can put my hand on the block for a couple seconds without getting burnt. but its acting almost like its not getting fuel when it heats up.. i just rebuilt part of the engine (thats why it has not ran in so long because it needed part rebuilt). im not sure what is wrong now tho.. but im running out of time in the season so im really hoping to fix it soon lol. any help on this would be great.. its got about 9 gallons of fresh 93 octane pure gas (not ethenol) in it. i bought a can of sea foam today and dumped that in it. hopefully it helps. but any ideas or help anyone has would be appreciated! thanks

You need to determine if you have an ignition or fuel issue, unfortunately that has to be checked WHEN it happens.

Does it slow down and die or turn off like turning off the key?

Have you checked for spark immediately after it quit?

Squeezed the primer bulb, was it soft, or sucked down flat?

Temporarily install a clear hose anywhere between the fuel pump and carbs, run the motor on the hose and watch for any air bubbles passing thru the hose, indicating air sucking into the hose somewhere between the tank and fuel pump.

Once you determine whether it is spark or fuel related we can proceed further.

ok well ill try that soon.. and when it dies it just bogs down like its running out of gas.. i added some sea foam to it and the sea foam to gas mix is too high. so i need to add more gas to it. but when i get that ill see what happens, if it will stay running or die out. if it dies ill test for spark and keep you updated. thanks

It is possible that an ignition component is heating up and dying, but NEVER ASSUME ANYTHING, as just replacing parts until it runs fine is THE most expensive method of repair.

Test, test, and test again to PROVE the fault before spending any money on parts, then you KNOW it is done right the first time.

i think i might have found whats wrong.. heres a pic. these are wires coming from the stator and they were apperantely touching the flywheel which was cutting away at them. could this be causing me to lose spark?? View attachment 114729

Pic no workee but yes, if the stator was being grounded absolutely it will cause your issue. Repair the wiring and report back. We must know!!!

Well the correct way would be to cut the wires and use heat shrink connectors. Hopefully you have enough wire that you do not have to splice a 2" section in. You could use tape and see if the engine runs but if it works the odds are you will run it like that until another problem develops. Do it once and do it right.

yeah im not sure i havent looked at it too hard to figure if i will need to add wire or if i can just cut and connect.. but i wasnt sure if i should do that or tape them.. its under the flywheel so i have to pull that first to see what im workin with. i plan to get to it tomorrow
