I just had a 2000, 115 Evinrude Fiche, it blew up after 85 hours of use. It is now worthless and I am now going to buy either an Optimas or EFI Mercury. can anyone tell me which one is going to be the best. I will put it on a 20ft deep hull, center console aluminium boat. for fishing and just pleasure riding. If there are problems with one more than the other I would appreciate hearing from someone before I make my purchase.

just a thought, you need to know why the motor blew before you put another motor on the same boat, fuel supply, fuel mix just in case the problem is still there???????????????

Go for the fuel injected motor every time, should be bullet proof and reduce the variable factors by 30%

You would be better off to buy a new Evinrude, built by Bombardier, that has a free 7 year warranty going on now.

The motor would bolt right on and will use the same wiring system, gauges, and controls. That way there are no re-rigging charges.

I don't know what happened to your 5 year old previous motor, but needless to say, the Bombardier built ones are next to bullet proof due to their quality control and passion for excellence.

I'd also suggest, like seahorse did, the Evinrude idea. Might even consider a Johnson plain old carb'd 2 stroke, or a Johnson 4 stroke. ;)
If you bought that engine new, and it only has 85 hours on it, I don't know if it's worth spending so much more, on a DFI engine.

Why be a devil for punishment?
Pay the extra, buy a Yammy and sleep good at night.
