I have a 1996 merc 150 offshore 2 stroke. It started fine this morning. Ran for a couple hours, now I it will not turn over with the ignition and the trim tilt does not work. I can pull start and it fires right up and runs fine, but still no trim tilt. Everything else on the battery works and ran the boat for another couple hours, no problems except no trim tilt and wont turn over with the key. Voltage gauge is reading 13 volts, so it is putting out charge.

There should be a fuse under the motor cowling. You might check it. It will be on the red wire near the starter solenoid.

Would it still start and run using the pull start? I can pull start it and it runs fine, except still no trim/tilt.

Yes, as long as keyswitch is set to run, she will pull start. Your motor has alternator driven ignition, which runs off the stator and some magnets.

You will not have trim or electric choke. The weirdest part of the story is that you are strong enough to pull start it.

you should have t n t no mater what.. its not, in any way, tied to tha ignition/key switch.. fed straight from battery.... should have a fuse in tha separate 12v red, control circuit though...

The trim system is fed its power thru the main cables going to the engine, and is controlled by soleniods. Are the cables tight on the battery? Good connections where they attach to the engine? This includes grounds

On my 84 115, it too, had the ADI ignition. For a while I was too cheap to buy a new battery, and would rope start it. Once it was running, the trim system did work

The trim switch on the motor does no work either. Will be having the battery tested this week. Everything else is working fine on the battery, so not sure why it would not have enough juice to run the trim motor. Wouldn't think it draws that much.

Get your battery tested.

Main cables can rot under the insulation

Have you tried hot wiring the battery to the starter directly using booster cables?
