I have a 2005 Mercury 150 XR6 that is giving me problems. When I first start it in the morning it starts fine and will idle and run just fine. After I sit and fish for awhile and I go to start it again , it does not want to start, and when it finally does I have to rev it up to get it going, then when i take off it wants to bog down and I have to gun it pretty hard to get it up and going. This will go on the rest of the day. Anyone have an idea as to what to check ? I have been using 92octane fuel, could this be a problem ?

Re: Mercury 150 XR6 problems

hi mh...i have the same exact engine as you and i have about 30 hours on it so far and have no once had any of these problems. i run 89 octane gas because it was recommended in the mercury manual for "engine cleanliness" if i were you, i would not even attempt to mess with it since it is still under warrenty. bring it to the dealer and have them look it over for you.

Mine is doing the same thing. You might watch my post too. I had a XR 4 that did this and it was stuck floats loading up the motor. But not the case this time. Since it runs good after taking off I would check the carbs for gunk and the gas for water. Good luck.

MH,

I have an XR6 with similar problems that i'm working on at this time. I am going to decarbon the motor with a product designed to get rid of "gunk" caused by the 2strokes. You need to have it in the water on a big lake so you can run it wide open after the treatment for about 5 minutes. There are so many things it could be, it is almost worth paying someone to check it out for you if you have the bucks. If not, buy a manual or download one online and get after it. It could be the stator, other ignition components, thermostat, ect... I just started the process of DIY, so i'll be watching this post for info...

Steve.
