Mercury 1969 80HP wiring

I just purchased my first boat which came with a 1969 80HP Merc engine. I haven't gotten it started yet but in looking it over I noticed a lot of cracked wiring inside the engine compartment. Can I purchase a new harness or make one? If I make one is it a special wire or will any wire do? Can the broken insulation be repaired?

It's possible to get a harness from CDI electronics or build or at lest repair what you have in most cases. You can use liquid tape (vinal) in alot of cases to repair cracked wires

try old mercs.com i got one for a 71 1350, about $150 but worth every penny. you know you have good wires.
