my 78 200hp black max runs and starts great , and starts right up as I jump from fishing hole to hole , but after making 6 short runs or so ( few minutes each run ) its hard to start ; almost seems like its vapor locked or flooded .. it usually starts right up after setting a bit ( just fish that spot a little more ) .... BUT last week it WOULDN'T start back up and I was stuck for hours and had to be towed in ..... next day put the earmuffs on in the driveway it STARTS RIGHT UP .. so I guess it starts when cold and warm but not hot ?? .... any ideas on what is causing this would be greatly appreciated ...

I have "sort of" the same issue, when I first start the engine, or after I've sat for a little bit after running it. I usually have to pump the bulb back up, and use the throttle only control but it'll bust right off (using the choke) doesn't seem to do a whole lot..... I'm sure if would eventually start, but It's just easier to throttle it forward a bit, and it'll bust off by the second or third revolution of the flywheel....

May try doing that, pump the bulb til it is hard, put it in "throttle only" on your control box, and let it rip.
