Hi all,

I have a mercury 4 stroke 20hp about 3 years old and about 150 hrs. I have noticed that when the engine is starting the oil warning lamp is not turning on. I checked its connections and also the oil pressure switch connection both seem fine. Oil level is ok and type to specs etc. I am thinking that either the lamp is faulty , the pressure switch may be remaining open or the cdi not switching or something similar.
1. how can you check the lamp and voltage applied to it when checking. are there any thing i need to have a look at.
many thanks

Hi all
update.
I checked the led (oil warning lamp) with a multi meter set on diode and the lamp proved faulty ( no continuity, also ensure that the + and - are connected correctly.).Yesterday the part arrived and i replaced the led and all is in order now. Just some other info. the led lamp can be withdrawn from the rubber grommet from behind. there is a shoulder part at the end of the led where it meets the grommet. this is usefull especially when removing the rubber grommet since one can press the grommit out. Otherwise forcing the grommet out could lead to tearing the grommet and breaking the LED....as i did:).the gromit is supplied with the part so thats not an issue. After fitting the grommit reroute the wires a bit fiddly but there was no way i could access the lower bolt of the plastic wire carrier unless more dismanteling is done (the starter bracket). However these where passed neatly .
Basically 1. remove wire carrier cover. 2. disconntect the 2 wires are reroute them out .3 remove gromit. 4. insert led, reroute wires and attach accordingly. repalce c over.

hope this helps.
