Hey all. My dad has a 56 Stamas with a mid 70's Mercury 20hp motor. We had to re-configure the throttle (tiller to control conversion) and have not used the motor on the water until today. We started it up, idled out the river to Lake Erie. The boat idled great. Once we got out to the lake, we went full throttle. Only the motor didn't follow suit. We had the controls all the way forward, but the motor would stay at a mid idle speed and randomly kick into the higher speed.
What I am trying to say is we had the motor at full throttle, and it just didn't respond. After a while of running, the motor just randomly kicked itself into full throttle and we started moving. After about 15 seconds, the motor went back to idle speed. It just randomly kicks in and out of full throttle, there is no consistency.
Any ideas?
