Hi..I put the muffs on my 1994 Merc 225 after pulling it outta winter storage, and when I turn the water tap on, there are a few pin holes of water streaming out of where the gear housing mates up to the lower leg.
It looks like there is no gasket in there...is there supposed to be, and can this contaminate my gear housing oil?
Thx John

I don't think there is supposed to be a gasket there. Sounds like a normal condition to me. If you are concerned, drain a little bit of lower unit oil out and look for milky condition or white streaking which would indicate water intrusion. I am assuming it was changed in the fall. If you are really concerned, you can drain the lower unit and pressure test it.
