Replacing the lower crank wear sleeve on mercury 25hp. Removed old one and the new superceded part is to big. I've referred to the FSM and it talks about a coupler not the sleeve. Do I have the wrong part or am I missing something on the install

Thanks
Jeff

Did you order this part on line or get help at a shop ?----Looks like the right part # so you got the wrong part.---What was wrong with the old sleeve ?

I installed a new thermostat... It didn't have one in it
The engine has been sitting unused for several years prior to me buying it. It runs but has high idle. It will cough and die sometimes. It had a water leak at the head cover around the spark plugs and the the power head base gasket. Seems like because of it sitting all the gaskets and seals have started to leak the more it runs. Trying to change both crank seals and replacement of the wear sleeve was recommended.

I had to split the case because it was leaking as well. I removed the sleeve at that point and when I went to put the other on it just slips over the crank. I had to heat and pry the original off. It has like a rubber liner in it and the new does not.

All parts were purchased online. These are GLM parts.... I was understand the impression the gasket set was genuine mercury so I'm wondering if that's my problem.

Thanks
Jeff

I am pretty sure that does not go on the crank. That gets pushed into the bottom of the block and guides the driveshaft in.

Its #7 in the diagram

The center one (2nd gen) is what came off... I have the 3rd gen and it's just a tad to big.... Its more of a slip fit instead of a press fit like I took off.

The sleeve fits on the crank !----Get the right sleeve for this motor.----Sometimes replacing parts that rarely wear out gets you in trouble !!

Ok.... So what's the right part? Is it because it's not genuine mercury or what? I know that these rarely wear out but they do at some point. There was definitely a groove worn on the sleeve so I wanted to replace it. I've learned long ago when you pull the trans on an 18 wheeler you put a new rear main in. Regardless if it's leaking or not... You don't want to pull it again... Anyways... I need to solve this... Where do I go from here?

Post # 3 says to perhaps get help at a repair shop / Mercury dealer , they should know what you need.
