I have a 2001 250 efi saltwater series mercury outboard. At the end of each season I decarb, change my lower unit oil, replace fuel/water separator and winterize. At the start of each season I replace plugs and change my impeller. After each use during the season i flush with fresh water and spray motor with crc. I put around 100 hrs each season on the motor(400 total know). I also live in ny where all our gas now has ethanol in it. Is there any extra maintenances I should be doing now. I have heard of replacing plastic oil lines and various other stuff to help combat the alcohol gas. Nothing else has ever been done to my motor. (tune-ups, etc.)

Re: mercury 250 efi maintenence

If it's never been done, you may want to inspect the fuel pump diaphrams... (the square fuel pump bolted to the crankcase) 'Course, you would never put the old ones back in...

Look your oil lines over very carefully. Check for cracks and stiffness. They should be soft and flexible, if not replace them. The lines will crack if/when they get hard. ( it has nothing to do with the alcohol in the fuel )

hello
you also want to check the filter for the high pressure fuel pump. should be done once a year and check/replace the t-stats. check/replace the water pressure diaphram as well.
