For obvious reasons you should get a manual. Will prove valuable now and in the future.

Try a search on these forums.

I plan on getting a manual. Anyone have a simple bulleted list to get me started.

i.e. drop lower unit (how)
remove linkage
find impeller?

How long should this take

Re: Mercury 25HP Impeller Replacement

it's very easy IF you know what you're doing!
been told 20-30 min... local mech. tells me the
book allows 2.5hrs labor. I had a manual, studied
it for a few days, and it ended up taking me all weekend
I have a 115hp short shaft with an extender and I
didn't even know such a critter existed!
I needed a 7" 3/8 hex wrench just to reach the
last screw.
feces occurs......
bottom line, get a manual and take it slow. make
sure you understand how to match up the shift
spline or she won't even go back on. (another story)
now this job will take me (novice) probably 2
hours or less, which is the good that comes out of it.
good luck,
M.Y.

Thanks. I've re-built diesel tractor engines with only a manual to go by, so I should be able to do this. I just hate paying someone $125 to do something that I can do in a reasonable time frame.

I'll be back with more questions as this is my first boat! :D

KeltonKrew, - sure you'll have more questions and many here loves to answer.

For one you must be the right to appreciate a manual, and it really changes the task from nightmare to 'piece of cake'.

To change the impeller could take anything from 0,5 to 3 hours depending on how coroded the bolts etc. are. I have changed quite a few and with the right tool and a manual it takes 20-40 minutes.
