Hello all, I am new here this is my first post and I want to start off by saying I have read alot on here and noticed how informative this place really is. That is what made me want to join this awesome forum......

Now I have a 1995 Mercury 25hp long shaft outboard. I am in the middle of rebuilding the lower unit as the previous owner let the lower unit oil leak out and never checked it and smoked the pinion gear. I bought new forward gear, pinion gear and both bearings. And all new seal kit. My question is how to you replace the race ways for the bearings. I know they have to be a special tool for this but i cant find it and was thinking about calling a marine shop but we all know that will cost a leg or two. Any help would be greatly appreciated...

We use a slide hammer you might consider having a shop pull them as a slidehammer is quite expencive for a one time use.
