Ive got a 95 mercury that all of a sudden has started to give me some big problems. It left me stranded out on the water the other morning duck hunting. Its been running great and then all of a sudden running at 3/4 speed on plane shut down on me. I have rebuilt the carb, soaked it for a day and cleaned it good. Now all I get out of it is some rough idling for a few seconds with a few backfires and dies off. Changed the gas out, changed the plugs out...all I could think of......any ideas on whats next...Im tryin to fix it myself, with the way the economy is, any imput would be welcomed.............

Re: Mercury 25hp Problem

Those engines have a problem with the kill switch in the handle, over time the wire or switch will short out and give you fits because they act up in many differant ways. I would find the black/yellow wire that comes from the handle and unplug it from the wire from the other kill switch and see if that repairs the problem if not we can give you the ign. ign. system test if you have the switch box number.
