Just acquired a merc 3.6. Was able to get it to start and run but it has a fuel leak. It uses a line, to filter, to shutoff valve, to carb setup. The valve seems to be the issue and is no longer an available part, number 20 on the attached diagram. Does anyone see an issue with running new fuel line off the tank to generic inline filter to carb and just deleting the shutoff valve?

Do you transport the motor, like in your trunk or truck bed? No shut off valve means a trunk or bed full of gas.

What is the part number of the valve?

20_89398. It is transported on transom of 14 ft fishing boat. Hope to use it while I save for something bigger. The three sections of line, the filter and the valve all seem to be bad so I'd like to just get by with rigging up something aftermarket. This would avoid lengthy searches ordering and waiting for the little fuel parts. I have a shut off valve on an old dirt bike I could rob. As long as the inner diameter of the line is the same I should have no pressure or flow issues right? Trying to get it out on the water Saturday so ordering parts is a no go.
