I was going to change the shift shaft boot( cracked and dry rotted) part #30 on diagram but the problem I have is removing the jam nut part #28 from the shift shaft(turns smoothly either direction to a certain point and works well as far as connecting shift linkage. But it seems in order to install the boot#30 and o rings # 32 and #33 that that nut should be removed from shift shaft am I going about this wrong or what is the deal with that nut part #28? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
