I have a 4.5 outboard. I've tried hard to start it. Close, but no cigar !!
New fuel, proper oil mix. Purged fuel line, no crap going through anywhere.
Some success after cleaning carburetor. However, the engine still won't start.
Priming with bulb, fuel squirts out hole at top of bowl assy. It is assumed that this means it is full, and then some. If I plug this hole with a finger, and gently prime, I can see fuel coming out of spray bar in throat of carb. This is good, proves to me that I can deliver fuel all the way to where it needs to be. Just not THAT much fuel, obviously.
Pull and pull the starter cord. Engine acts like it wants to run, but seems best immediately after the pull is released, and flywheel spinning "fastest". Then putt, putt, with less and less enthusiasm as flywheel energy diminishes.
Even with raw gasoline injected directly into cylinder, no more zest for a start than priming properly and pull, pull, pull.
Interesting: after a prime with bulb, seems like fuel/air mix changes. No real zeal toward a start with rich mix, then tries a little, then after prime is gone, nothing. Makes sense for what it's worth. No real hard, positive run even on primed fuel like I think it should. Barely igniting the fuel.
Pulled spark plug, spun flywheel by hand while monitoring for spark. I can hear it snapping, but can't see it. Maybe capacitor "condenser" is shot? Weak spark?
Why does it "try", and just lose enthusiasm? Why, with higher flywheel rpm after umph pull, best action? Why diminishing action with lower flywheel rpm?
I.V. push of Cialis?
