Quick one. I’ve eventually tracked down my previously mentioned electrical shorting and engine bogging issues. It is in actual fact caused by the remotes unit shorting out. Had the thing in bits just yesterday and day before.
Terrible design which has caused the trim switch wiring to short and I fear caused further damage within the box itself too. The trim wiring route is ridiculous and has caused it to jam and get pinched clean through the protective insulation sheathing in two places.
Below are some pictures. You can clearly see the issue. Also note the pictures clamp too. The screw that remains in place has actually arc welded itself solid to the casting almost. Evidence of flack and debris too. Another picture shows where the jamming has actually been severe enough to take the paint off the unit.
Finally. I have just since read that there was a service recall bulletin around this very issue. Will Mercury still honour the recall and replace the unit, despite the unit being a 2016 era and out of warranty? Thanks in advance
