I have a '74 Mercury 402 Thunderbold 40HP 2stroke Longtail, and i'd like to know the weight of this motor. I think my 14 Ft boat has to much weight on board, as the transom is verry low when i am not at speed. Does anyone know how heavy this motor is? What is the difference wit a 25HP 4 Stroke? Will this be any better? Will i loose a lot of speed?

Re: Mercury 402 Heavyweight

I have two. They are about 150 pounds. One is on the back of a 14' McKee Craft (similar to Whaler).
Perfect fit !

I am thinking of changing into a 25 HP Mercury. Anyone know the weight of them? Will this be much less?

My 25 Merc Short shaft non-electric is 112 #. Not too much difference considering you probably have a battery and a 6 gallon tank back there with it.
