My low oil alarm starting going off recently. I assume the float has went bad or at least that's what I read on the internet. I have disconnected the alarm. All though not currently using the boat, its the off season. a new oil reservoir is pretty expensive. finally my question, will it hurt if I just don't replace the reservoir and leave the alarm unhooked? If the float is bad will oil injection still mix the oil?
thanks for any help.

Hi. Maybe not a great idea to disconnect it. Can you not see if the float is bad and sinking ? Other reason for the oil alarm on some models is if the filter is blocked. Not sure yours has this too ?
its maybe just the bigger motors, but do you have a feed oil tank in the bilge too ? Or is it just the in built tank on the engine ?

Oil sensor only senses low oil, not if the pump has failed or if you have other problems. My Merc has a window on the front of it showing the oil level, so I have no need for an alarm. A constant beep is overheat alarm and a beep, beep, beep, etc. is oil sensor. My mechanic disconnected them and said it was a possible short someplace.
