I have a 1995 Mercury 40hp 4cyl., tiller S/N OG186007 that has developed a "Clack, clack" noise. I found that the lower reed valve block is loose and can move up and down about 1/4". The upper reed valve block is secure and won't move. The service manual shows that there is a bolt, that is right next to the carburator inlet, that goes through the rear housing and seats into the reed valve block which holds it into position. The problem is that this motor does not have the bolts in the housing that hold the reed valve block. The cover does not have the holes for the bolts. Does anyone know why this motor doesn't have these retaining bolts and how are the reed valve blocks retained on the crankshaft? Do I have to pull off the inlet cover to tighten the reed valve blocks? Thanks for the help.<br />Tom
