Hi I have a few problems with my mercury 4hp outboard, Serial No 9295382

The outboard ran but now refuses to do so.

Firstly I noticed fuel leaking out of the carburetor so I suspect this to be the culprit, I would like to buy a new set of gaskets and a float set could any one point me in the right direction please.

Secondly there is a wire loose see the attached pics, it is the black wire with spade like connector coming of the thunderbolt ignition (also a suspect) the problem is I cant find where it is supposed to go......any ideas?

Lastly I checked the plugs and the gap for the spark seems to be very wide does any one know what it should be so I can set it properly?

Many thanks

Re: Mercury 4hp Problems

I have a 78 of this model, people hate the GNAT as it's known, I love mine , mine is missing the recoil :(. The carb float height is what is off, I had mine off 3 times to get it set right. You won't need to buy anything to fix it, see the link below.

As for the plugs, .050. The wire, I'll have to look at my motor and check, could go to the stator plate.
