I'm currently in process of pulling motor and replacing transom in my alumacraft and since motor Goin to be removed I'm goin to replace the much worn motor mounts and fix exhaust leak on my 2 stroke mercury 50hp (4cyl). but the serial number I've searched didn't tell me what year the motor actually is. when I bought boat few months back the owner said motor was an 88 model and boat an 85 model.

serial number listed on motor reads: a102613 . can anyone point me in right direction on this I would greatly appreciate the help. I'd rather order the correct parts needed the first time so boat is back up and going ASAP cause spring bass fishing is in mid swing! I thanks guys

you are the man! I'm not sue what I was doin wrong when I tried searching serial number??

so the service manual I need is 90-86135--5 correct? I tried searching in hopes of running across a free service manual to download but didn't find anything.

I'm kinda reluctant to try and tackle pulling this powerhead right off the bat without having any kind of manual.

Correct, http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from...135-5&_sacat=0

Don't believe this manual is online and iboats forums is trying to get out of the habit of linking service manuals due to copyright infringement fears but honestly it best to just buy one as it's better to have a book by you vs a computer while working...The book might be expensive to buy new but still cheaper than a laptop computer when it hits the floor. :( $40.00 used isn't to bad for used If you can get it.

Glad I could help, good luck.
