Mercury 500 50 hp outboard

[Serialization]

I bought a boat that had a merc 500 50 hp. I think the year is a 1977 and I have no clue on the serial number. ( I can post that later)

Is there any online manuals out there on merc 500s? There are several things on the motor im not sure of.

If anyone can guide me to the right direction it would be great.

Look on the top of the transom clamp, up where the front of the cowl meets the base/clamp...numbers should be there. Need the right year to get the right manual. Sometimes see the Merc factory manuals (best bet) on Ebay for not much $$.
