i have a mercury 50, first can somone tell me what year it is? se. no. 7031920

two, there is a plug in the merc control, what is suposed to be hooked up to this? its three prong, if any one knows, i think one might be for a tach, and maybe fuel gauge?, can anyone tell me which wire would plug into which slot so i can hook everything up corectly?

thanks, any info would be great,

Looks to be a 1974 (Canadian) (http://www.maxrules.com/) The three prong plug on the control is for a tach - one for 12 volts, one for a ground, and one for the tach signal from the engine. You can use a multi-meter to determine which is which.

Hope this helps,

if i were to have all the wires hooked up correctly, and tunred the ignition on, but didnt start the motor, what should the tach do? it should move should it?

mine goes right to the left as far as it will go, does this mean its wrong? the built in light comes on. if i were to start the motor would it register?

thanks
