hi all,

I have an old Mercury 500 50HP Thunderbolt outboard. I'm new to outboard motor and still learning about these engines.

Here is my Problem:

Before I took the boat out to the water for testing. I've changed all the 4 sparks plugs, gears oil and mix the 2 strokes oil to the gasoline. When I pulled the flywheel 1-2 times, the engine starts running and I left it running for 3-4 minutes and then turned it off. Every time I pulled the engine it will starts right away, but when i took it out to the water, it's start and ran for a few minutes then no matter how many time we tried to pull the flywheel it doesn't start anymore. Does any body know what is happening with this motor?

I also found 3 fitting are NOT connect to anything, could someone tell me what are those fitting are for and how they should be connects? See attachment photos

Much appreciated.

Welcome aboard.

Vents hose fittings for the ozone made by the points arcing. Don't worry about them, but a hose connects them to the front motor support.

Is the fuel tank vent open?
