I have a new boat with a new Mercury 50ELPTO. The motor stalls whenever I go over 2000rpm. It seems like when it hits around 2500rpm something causes the RPMs to drop quickly which then causes the engine to stall. It starts back up fine. It seems as if theres something thats causing it to be limited.

Does anyone have any ideas what can be causing it or maybe get me in the right direction to try and figure what it can be?

Thanks

Mine is a 2001,, same thing,,, but if i jar the throttle it can make it past 2500,, then off to 4000 rpm,,, but nothing over or inbetween.

I took off the air intake plastic cowl and it runs way better. No one has been able to answer me why... The little restriction of that air cowl creates the problem.

I run my boat w/ the 4 carb mouths open w/ my cover on the motor..... Cowl is in storage compartment....

Try it.

If this rig is "new" bring it back to the dealer and let them look at it. May as well take advantage of your warranty. My two cents.
