Re: MERCURY 50HP AC VOLTS

If you have AC volts the alternator is probable working, that not the way to test it. Use a OHM meter and ck the alt. windings you should have a get a readind yellow to yellow but none to ground. A simple ck would be to hook a DC meter to the battery and start the engine you should have a slow rise it battery voltage to about 14 volts a high idle. If you don't get a voltage rise and the windings ck OK you have a bad rectifier

Sounds like your stator is OK. Check the rectifier with an ohm-meter and then hook it up.

Never run the rectifier disconnected from the battery.

Those are unregulated charging systems. You outta have a DC volt guage in the boat, if not buy one. If the voltage rises to over 14v turn on some lights or turn up the stereo. :)

-W
