I recently was given a boat. I was trying to get some information on the motor that came with it.
It's a Mercury 60 HP, the serial number is D296146. But when I look this up there are multiple engines. Not sure which is mine.

601994ELOD279350 - G117717
601994ELPTOD279350 - G116947
601994ELHPTOD279350 - G116951
601994ELPTO TRD279350 - G117064
601994EOD279350 - G11695

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

For that you would refer to the Model #, should be on the same plate that had the Serial Number.

This is the only place I have found the serial number. I don’t see any other data plates anywhere.

There are short shaft, long shaft, extra long shaft, electric start, manual start, tiller steer and wheel steer models. Determine which version is yours and then you'll know which e,l,p,t,o whatever is your model number.

I understand that. This boat was given to me and Is also is my first boat. I have no clue how to identify the model. I figured I could ID it by serial number but I guess that’s not the case. I know it is electric start and wheel steer, other than that have no clue on the rest. Thanks for the reply.

Well it has Electric Start, is likely a Wheel Steering model, Does it have Power Trim?

Pretty sure it does. Has a switch on the side of the motor that raises and lowers it. And a switch mounted on the hull (see pic)

By process of elimination I would assume it is the ELPTO model. But I am not sure about the oil injection part. I don’t see an oil tank anywhere. I would assume if it was oil injected it would have one.

Is there a oil tank inside the Engine Cowl?
No. There is a cap but the tank, looks like has been cut out. I’ve read that people have removed the oil injection system. Probably what happened here. I do not know the history of the engine. My dad passed away and my step-mother gave me the boat. Just trying to figure this thing out.

If there is a Cap, the tank should be under it, so if it was removed, you have to mix the oil in with the Gas. Oil TCW-3, at 50:1, basically 16 ounces for every 6 US gallons of Gas

Right. I just got a little confused looking at the parts diagram. Talked to my Brother in law and he told me the mix ratio. Appreciate the response to the post. Now I have to figure out this power trim stuff. Thanks again.

Ok I have another question. My remote control unit does not have the trim button. Just the switch I posted earlier. Can I just replace the remote control unit with one that has the trim adjust button?

Yes, it certainly is Doable
The switch by the motor wasn’t even connected. There was a trim switch by the console, it was rusted and when I tried to get it loose it broke. So, I just replaced with a waterproof switch.
