My 1967 mercury 650 4 cyl will make my boat stay in plowing mode for about 20 minutes then it will slowly throttle up and plane out to full throttle. any ideas of how I can get it to go full throttle quicker? Throttle cable adjustment maybe? Any help is appriciated.

thanks,
Josey

engine slowly warming

engine slowly warming

is it that the engine takes a long time to warm up and only then has power enough to get your boat planing?

do you have power tilt trim? if not try another notch on engine tilt. could also have 500 pounds of water in the under floor foam holding it back.

Also consider putting a *whaletail on the motor..it offers excellent lifting for non-triming motors you'll be able to find one at any marine store and you'll notice a big difference compared to not having one IMO. You also need to check your engine rpm at WOT and how long it takes to get there you could have some other issues that a tuneup might fix.

Also consider dropping a prop pitch.... an overpropped motoer can't spool up properly. It's like trying to get your car to go starting off on 3rd gear.
